My granddaughter honored me with a request. She said that she asked her mom first, but her mom said that she learned all she knows about the subject from me. The subject is makeup and hair for a proper lady. My daughter went through the early teen years using glittery makeup and neon nail colors. It was tee shirts and jeans for her then too. Now she dresses elegantly for her position as a prosecuting attorney for the county. My granddaughter was now wanting a makeover, so I told her to come on over and try some German wimpernserum. That intrigued her enough to come over for the weekend.
She had been away at camp for three weeks of summer vacation. She had only been back a few hours and had not seen any of her friends yet. She packed a bag and came over to our house for the weekend. She wanted a makeover before she saw her friends. I knew from her words that she wanted it to be dramatic like those ones you see on TV. I also knew that she was still a young lady. I explained to her that wimpernserum was just German for eyelash serum. Here we just call it mascara. I showed her which products she could rely on for doing the different jobs makeup is to accomplish.
Her young skin was flawless, so she did not need any foundation to even out her tones. I told her that it would come later. Hopefully, much later. We picked an elegant lipstick appropriate for an intelligent young woman, and she liked how the wimpernserum lengthened and thickened her eyelashes. A little subtle eye color to show off her beautiful dark brown eyes and we were done with the makeup. The hair style was next. I took her to my stylist who took her from long straight hair to a wavy short cut that made her look a few years older. She looked so grown up it scared me. Well, she was a hit with her friends. The glasses were gone and she had contacts. The braces came off the month before, and her smile was brilliant. My little granddaughter was growing up!
